Watercolour & Walk Day on Dartmoor

'Painting and drawing is a meditation. A way to feel more connected to myself. And to the land I love’. Gina Hemery, Artist

Join us for a guided walk through an ancient stone circle and along a river followed by watercolour tuition for all levels. You will learn to enhance the artistic skills you already have or learn new techniques and media. (You are welcome to bring your own media to work with and Gina is happy to discuss anything with you, but the painting focus will be watercolour.)

Gina Hemery grew up in Devon and has lived in Dorset for over 28 years and is constantly inspired to paint the natural world around her home, the countryside and further afield. She has been drawing and painting for as long as she can remember – watercolour became her medium of choice due to it’s portability, and it rapidly hooked her. She works mostly outdoors and she continually explores this medium’s magical ability to convey light, colour and atmosphere. Gina is influenced by the philosophy and practise of early Chinese painters, the Impressionists, Samuel Palmer and many other watercolourists of the present day. Check out Gina Hemery Art on Facebook for more examples of her exquisite work.

Further Information

Level: 3 out of 5. The walk is approximately 3 miles across open moorland. It will be a gentle pace with a couple of stops to paint, sketch and for lunch.

Meeting place: Small carpark next to Scorhill moor gate. Drive to the village of Gidleigh (above Chagford) then continue driving uphill towards Scorhill and Creaber. Keep going straight for approximately 1 mile until you reach a sharp bend to the right with a turning to the left and dead end sign. Take this left turn on the bend up to Scorhill. Postcode is TQ13 8HS (please don't rely on this to get you to the exact spot). Parking is limited so carsharing recommended.

What to bring: Dartmoor weather is changeable so bring warm layers, sunscreen, sturdy walking shoes, waterproofs. Bring lunch and a drink. And bring your own painting/drawing materials, pencil, rubber, sharpener and sketch pad. (We can provide basic watercolour supplies if you let us know in advance. There will be a small additional fee.) There is a small natural swimming pool in a nearby river, so bring swimming costumes and towel if you’d like a dip!

Cancellation: The walk maybe postponed if the weather forecast is awful (strong winds or heavy rain) and you will be sent an email within 24 hours of the event. You will be invited to attend the new date or offered a refund. Sorry no refunds if you are unable to attend.
