Fernworthy & Sittaford Stone Circles and Whitehorse Hill Cist with DNPA Archaeologist

Join Dartmoor's Daughter and Lee Bray, Head of Archaeology, Dartmoor National Park Authority, for a guided walk through Fernworthy to its stone circle and associated rows, the newly re-discovered Sittaford Stone Circle, and the cist at Whitehorse Hill.

Lee will be sharing preliminary results from additional surveys and samples taken from Sittaford Stone Circle earlier this year. We will then walk on to Whitehorse hill where a recent archaeological dig revealed artefacts that belonged to a high status young woman.

Tickets

£15 adults (plus Eventbrite booking fee). A portion of this fee goes towards 'Donate for Dartmoor'. Group size is limited so pre-booking essential.

Further Information

Level: 4 out of 5. The walk will be a reasonable pace on a muddy track up through Fernworthy Forest then out on to the open moor with some rough ground and boggy patches. You need to be comfortable spending 6-7 hours in hilly moorland terrain.

Meeting point: Small car parking area OS Grid Reference SX6583 in Fernworthy Forest.
Directions - drive all the way into Fernworthy Forest, PAST the first/main carpark with toilets on the right. Keep following this tarmac road for approx another mile - it bends right (don't take the stony road that forks left). You will pass a large one storey building on the left with corrugated roof, then drive over a small stone bridge until you can't drive any further. There is a large locked wooden gate across the road with a signpost saying 'Kindly keep drive clear' and another sign for a Bridlepath. There is room to park several cars but car sharing is strongly recommended. Please do not block the gates. TQ13 8EA is the nearest Postcode for sat nav but don't rely on it to get you to the exact spot!

What to bring: Dartmoor weather is highly changeable so please bring/wear plenty of warm layers, sunscreen, sturdy hiking boots, waterproof clothing (even if the forecast is fine!), lunch/snacks and drink.

Cost: £15 adults (plus Eventbrite booking fee). A portion of this fee goes towards 'Donate for Dartmoor'. Group size is limited so pre-booking essential.

Cancellation policy: The event will go ahead come rain or shine. Sorry no refunds if you are unable to attend.

Risk: No liability accepted for accidents or incidents
