Sacred Crescent Walk - 8 Stone Circles in a day

Walk through an ancient and ritual landscape on Dartmoor. The 8 stone circles form an approximate arc so, taking an archaeological as well as phenomenological approach, we will journey together - sometimes in silence and sometimes sharing our experiences - through this wild and beautiful landscape asking questions of the ancestors, stones, and land along the way..

Tickets

COST: £25 per adult including taxi/minibus back to start point. Older children 16+ years are welcome if they have sufficient walking experience and fitness. Group size is limited so pre-booking is essential.

A donation from all walks will be given to Donate for Dartmoor and the four Dartmoor Search and Rescue Teams.

Further Information

LEVEL: 4 out of 5. This walk requires a good level of fitness and is approximately 9 miles or 14.5 km. We will be walking along some grassy paths, the occasional tussocky area, up and down hills, and across open rough terrain some of which will be a little wet/boggy. We will stop and spend time at each stone circle for approximately 10-20 minutes each depending on our pace.

WHAT TO BRING/WEAR: Sturdy hiking boots; warm layers; waterproof jacket and trousers (whatever the forecast); drinks/hot flask, snacks, and picnic lunch.
Dogs - By arrangement only please. (They must be well behaved around people, livestock, and other dogs. And under close control at all times or on a lead for the duration)

TIME & MEETING START POINT: 8.15am for 8.30am walking start at the CREABER MOOR GATE near SOUTH CREABER, GIDLEIGH, TQ13 8HS.

DIRECTIONS: Sat Nav is highly unlikely to take you to the exact location so we strongly recommend that you follow these directions (or get in touch for different directions). Drive to the village of Gidleigh (above Chagford) and find the church. With GIDLEIGH CHURCH ON YOUR RIGHT, drive to the T-junction (village hall will be on your left) and TURN RIGHT. Follow this road up and around to the right (don't take the left fork with dead-end sign to Scorhill) for approximately 3/4 mile where there is a LEFT TURN signposted 'Creaber'. Drive up this small lane and 'South Creaber' is on your left. Please follow directions where to park from Emma or the owners of this beautiful farmhouse. If you are early, please park on the verge further down the lane and then move to parking place when you see us. Thank you!
Please note that lanes/bridges are narrow so we don't recommend bringing vehicles over 6ft wide or with a low wheel base.

CAR SHARING - Car parking is very limited so we request that you car share as much as possible please. You could share with someone living nearby or meet up at Whiddon Down or Chagford and share the last section together. Please post your lift offers/requests in the Facebook event page and/or email info@dartmoorsdaughter.com.

Finish: The walk will finish at approximately 4.30pm and we will organise lifts/taxis/minibus to take us back to the start point for 5pm.

CANCELLATION: The walk will go ahead come rain or shine. Sorry no refunds if you change your mind about attending.

RISK: No liability accepted for accidents or incidents.
