Voyage into the Mycelium - Fungal Anatomy, Behaviour & Cultivation

You will already have a basic level of knowledge and be interested to delve deeper with Dartmoor's Daughter and Dr Christian Taylor, Mycologist.

This Intermediate level day will comprise of a morning Fungal Foray in a Dartmoor woodland. And be followed by examining mycelia under the microscope; learning about hyphal structures and behaviours; as well as cultivation techniques used both in the laboratory as well as cultivation techniques for culinary purposes.

There will be slides shown from a laptop and data projector as well as some microscope work and petri dish plating and preparing cultivation media for mycelia.

Price: £45 per adult. Group size is limited to pre-booking is essential please. The fee includes a site fee donation to Steward Community Woodland; a fee for Green Hill Arts; and a donation from all walks will be given to Donate for Dartmoor and the Dartmoor Search and Rescue Teams.


Further Information

LEVEL: Intermediate. The morning walk will be easy and at a gentle pace with several stops for approximately 2 miles. We will mostly be on woodland paths but there are some slopes to walk up and down.

WHAT TO WEAR/BRING: Plenty of warm layers (we will be stopping a lot), sturdy walking shoes or wellies (some tracks are muddy after recent rain), waterproof jacket and trousers (Dartmoor weather is unpredictable), hat, gloves, as well as picnic lunch and drink/hot flask (we will have lunch at Green Hill Arts.
Sorry no dogs.

There is no parking near Green Hill Arts so please park in one of the two big car parks in Moretonhampstead.
