Feel your senses come alive and daily stresses melt away as we walk mostly in silence and soak up the beauty of the moor. Moss and lichens drape ancient oaks in Black a Tor copse. One of three ancient woodlands on high Dartmoor, it is less known or visited than Wistman’s Wood.
Tickets
PRICE: £25 adults. Pre-booking essential.
Further Information
LEVEL: Moderate - most of the walk is medium grade but there is a section coming into the wood that requires walking over some large rocks.
WHAT TO WEAR/BRING: Dartmoor weather is changeable so bring warm layers, sunscreen, sturdy walking shoes and waterproofs (whatever the weather forecast) plus lunch/snacks and drinks. Bring something to sit on eg: sit-mat.
We also recommend bringing personal masks, a pair of disposable gloves each, and a personal first aid kit. (From a safety perspective, this offers additional protection against Covid-19 if there were to be an accident and first aid is required by me or the rescue teams. Sorry we know it seems onerous but, given current government guidelines, these are currently being proposed by all guides.)
MEETING LOCATION: Meldon Reservoir car park near Okehampton. The car park is on the approach road to the dam. Grid Reference is SX 561 917. Nearest postcode is EX20 4LU but please don't rely on your sat nav to get you to the exact location.
Cancellation: The event will go ahead whatever the weather. Sorry no refunds if you're unable to attend.
RISK: Please note: Walks and groups are at your own risk. No liability is accepted for accidents or incidents.
We have received the ‘Good to Go’ Industry Standard Certificate. If you have a cold, flu, cough, temperature or are diagnosed with COVID-19 please do not join a walk if you have booked. You will be able to transfer your booking to another walk.
