Walk with Dartmoor's Daughter through an ancient and ritual landscape on Dartmoor. The eight stone circles on North East Dartmoor form an approximate arc. Taking an archaeological as well as phenomenological approach, we will journey together - sometimes in silence and sometimes sharing our experiences - through this wild and beautiful landscape asking questions of the ancestors, stones, and land along the way. You have the choice to join us on one or both days.
Tickets
COST: £25 one walk, or £45 for both walks. Older children 16+ years are welcome if they have sufficient walking experience and fitness. Cost does not include accommodation. Accommodation recommendations can be sent if required. Group size is limited for safety and enjoyment, so pre-booking is essential please. We need to retain contact details for 21 days post-walk so please include your contact details (email and mobile/telephone when booking/paying.) And check your emails 12-24 hours before the date.
Further Information
LEVEL: Moderate. These walks require a good level of fitness and are each approximately 6-8 miles each. We will be following some grassy paths as well as making our way through long tussocky grass, up and down hills, and across open rough terrain some of which maybe wet. We will stop and spend time at each stone circle for 15-30 minutes depending on our group pace and the weather.
WHAT TO BRING/WEAR: Sturdy hiking boots with gaiters if you have them; walking poles; plenty of warm layers including hat and gloves; waterproof jacket and trousers (whatever the forecast); head-torch; drinks/hot flask, snacks, picnic lunch.
Dogs - By arrangement only please.
We also recommend bringing personal masks, a pair of disposable gloves each, and a personal first aid kit. (From a safety perspective, this offers additional protection against Covid-19 if there were to be an accident and first aid is required by me or the rescue teams. Sorry we know it seems onerous but, given current government guidelines, these are currently being proposed by all guides.)
