Sacred Crescent Walk - 8 Stone Circles to celebrate Summer Solstice

Sacred%252Bcrescent%252Bwalk.jpg

Walk through an ancient and ritual Dartmoor landscape. These prehistoric stone circles form an approximate arc. So, taking an archaeological as well as phenomenological approach, we will journey together (sometimes in silence and sometimes sharing our experiences) through this wild and beautiful landscape asking questions of the ancestors, stones, and land along the way.

Tickets

FEE: £35 per adult including a coffee and pastry for breakfast to encourage an early start! Older children 16+ years are welcome if they have sufficient walking experience and fitness. Group size is limited so pre-booking is essential.

We need to retain contact details for 21 days post-walk so please include your contact details (email and mobile/telephone when booking/paying.)

Location

8.15am for 8.30am walking start at the grassy car parking area near 'Roundy Pound' on the way to Batworthy-In-The-Moor above Chagford. Grid Ref: SX663868
Nearest postcode is TQ138ET but Sat Nav is unlikely to get you to the exact location (it usually stops about 3/4 mile before the meeting point near the hamlet of Teigncombe) so please follow the directions which will be emailed to participants.

Finish time will be approximately 6-7pm depending on our group pace and how long you want to spend in the circles.

Car Sharing - Please car share in your ‘bubbles’ where possible. Parking is limited on Dartmoor. And sharing lessens our impact on the environment. Thank you.

Further Information

WHAT TO WEAR/BRING: Sturdy walking boots; warm layers; sunscreen; waterproof jacket and trousers (whatever the forecast); walking poles if you have them; drink/flask and snack or picnic lunch.

Dogs - By arrangement only please.

We also recommend bringing personal masks, a pair of disposable gloves, and a personal first aid kit. (From a safety perspective, this offers additional protection against Covid-19 if there were to be an accident and first aid is required by me or the rescue teams. Sorry we know it seems onerous but, given current government guidelines, these are currently being proposed by all guides.)

LEVEL: Strenuous. Approximately 14 miles/23 km through hilly moorland terrain. We will stop and spend time at each stone circle (as well as the Whitehorse Hill burial chamber of the Bronze Age ‘Tin Priestess/Princess’) for anywhere between 10-20 minutes each depending on our pace.

Route is dependent on weather conditions and group pace.

CANCELLATION: The event will go ahead come rain or shine. Payments are refunded (less the booking fee) for cancellations no less than six weeks before your walk or experience.

Dartmoor’s Daughter has received the ‘We’re Good to Go’ Industry Standard Certificate.  If you have a cold, flu, cough, temperature or are diagnosed with COVID-19 please do not join the walk. You will be able to transfer your booking to another walk.

RISK: Walks and activities are at your own risk. No liability accepted for accidents or incidents.
