The Merrivale complex is impressive with multiple stone and hut circles, rows, standing stones, cairns and cistvaens dating from the Bronze Age. Layers of later history can be seen nearby including tin mines, a warren and blowing house, as well as more modern pump house and quarry.
Dowsing, a form of 'divining', has been used for thousands of years for many different purposes including finding water, oil, archaeological remains, missing people as well energy lines and testing for allergies. This day will be led by a long-time member of 'Devon Dowsers’ and will specifically focus on finding earth energies using rods and pendulums. Together we'll discover the beauty of the moor and explore the energy, age and use of these ancient sites.
FEE: £20 per adult. Plus £10 bronze rods. Group size is limited so pre-booking is essential.
We need to retain contact details for 21 days post-walk so please include your contact details (email and mobile/telephone when booking/paying.)
Location:
Four Winds car park on B3357 between Two Bridges and Tavistock. Carpark is on the left past the track to Yellowmead Farm (travelling west) and is between the Princetown and Merrivale timetabled bus stops. Grid Reference SX561749. Nearest postcode is PL20 6ST (please don't rely on your sat nav to get you to the exact location).
Car Sharing - Please car share in your ‘bubbles’ where possible. Parking is limited on Dartmoor. And sharing lessens our impact on the environment. Thank you.
Further Information:
WHAT TO WEAR/BRING: Sturdy walking boots; warm layers; sunscreen; waterproof jacket and trousers (whatever the forecast); walking poles if you have them; drink/flask and snack or picnic lunch. And bring rods or pendulum if you have them.
Dogs - Sorry, no dogs (it's difficult to juggle dowsing rods and animals!)
We also recommend bringing personal masks, a pair of disposable gloves, and a personal first aid kit. (From a safety perspective, this offers additional protection against Covid-19 if there were to be an accident and first aid is required by me or the rescue teams. Sorry we know it seems onerous but, given current government guidelines, these are currently being proposed by all guides.)
LEVEL: EASY. The pace will be gentle across 1-2 miles with several stops along the way. Dowsing teaching is aimed at beginners or those with some knowledge. As an expert dowser, you are welcome to join us but the first hour will be dedicated to teaching beginner dowsing skills.
Route is dependent on weather conditions and group pace.
CANCELLATION: The event will go ahead come rain or shine. Payments are refunded (less the booking fee) for cancellations no less than six weeks before your walk or experience.
Dartmoor’s Daughter has received the ‘We’re Good to Go’ Industry Standard Certificate. If you have a cold, flu, cough, temperature or are diagnosed with COVID-19 please do not join the walk. You will be able to transfer your booking to another walk.
RISK: Walks and activities are at your own risk. No liability accepted for accidents or incidents.
