Walk & Navigation Practice Day - Intermediate Level

Would you like to walk on Dartmoor more often and need a confidence boost to explore new places? Have memories faded of how to use your map and compass and you'd like a refresher? Or to learn more advanced navigation techniques?

Join us and visit the Dartmoor that's off the beaten track, a day to help regain your confidence to visit places you've never been to before. Providing both a reminder of how to use your map and compass, and an opportunity to to discover other ways to feel your way through the landscape - natural navigation (feeling and seeing the landscape). Experience how to always know where you are and how to get to where you'd like to be, whatever the weather.

You'll be walking with others of similar ability and led by Verran Townsend, qualified walking guide and navigator who along with Emma, loves to encourage and enable others to experience the wildness and beauty of Dartmoor.

If you've never used a compass then this is not yet for you, please do join instead one of our Navigation Training workshops for Beginners/or Refresher.

Compass - Silva is recommended and a good source is Dartmoor National Park Visitors Centres or dash4it.co.uk Any of the following would be fine: Silva Starter 8; Silva Field; Silva Ranger; Silva Expedition 4.

DOGS: It is difficult to handle a map and compass whilst also having a dog with you, so we don't recommend they join you.

Route is dependent on weather conditions and group pace.

CANCELLATION: The event will go ahead come rain or shine. Payments are refunded (less the booking fee) for cancellations no less than six weeks before your walk or experience.

If you cancel after the six weeks, we would advise you please try to resell/pass on your ticket and/or we can try to re-sell your ticket (we sometimes have a waitlist although there is no guarantee) we can then offer a credit note for the ticket price (minus the £1 booking fee and minus a £5 admin fee).
