North East Dartmoor is a rich archaeological landscape. We will explore the Shoveldown Bronze Age ritual complex including several stone rows, 4-fold cairn circle, standing stone, and possible stone circle. We will debate why the granite ‘cow bridge’ doesn’t appear to go anywhere, and what the meaning might be of a mystery inscription on Kestor nearby the largest rock basin on Dartmoor. Heading back past the Roundy Pound settlement with associated reaves and droveway, we will drive back to Chagford afterwards where you can explore this ancient stannary town.
Donation: I am offering this walk for free to members of the Dartmoor Preservation Assocation (DPA). Non-members are invited to make a donation to DPA if you feel moved to http://www.dartmoorpreservation.co.uk/making-a-donation/
