Autumn Wild Edibles and Medicine Walk

'We don't need to reconnect to nature, we are nature.' Discover wholeness and health as Brigit Anna McNeil and Dartmoor's Daughter lead you on a journey to explore Autumn’s edible and medicinal offerings.

You will learn how to identify edible seasonal plants and leaves, seeds, flowers, and roots. And understand how to prepare them for cooking and eating or for potent medicines to nourish, strengthen or cleanse. Unfortunately we can't offer you the delicious pre-prepared wild treats that we usually bring with us however we can offer you a hot tea/infusion so please bring a lightweight cup with you.

Tickets

Price: £25 adults and £10 children under 16 years old. Pre-booking essential. Group size is limited so pre-booking is essential. We need to retain contact details for 21 days post-walk so please include your contact details (email and mobile/telephone when booking/paying.) And check your emails 12-24 hours before the date.

Further Information

TIME/LOCATION: 09.15am meet for 09.30am start.

LEVEL: Easy. Approximately 2 miles, the pace will be gentle with many stops along the way.

WHERE TO MEET: Newbridge car park with toilets by the bridge. This is approximately 4 miles west of Ashburton on the Ashburton-Dartmeet/Two Bridges Road. Grid Reference: SX 711 708.

The nearest postcode is TQ13 7NT (but please don't rely on a GPS to get you to the exact location, it likely won’t on Dartmoor!).

Directions from the A38 - Take the Ashburton 'Pear Tree’ exit (not the other Ashburton exit) and head for 'Princetown/River Dart Country Park'. Go past the River Dart Country Park and keep going along the lane. Cross Holne Bridge and keep going. The next big bridge is New Bridge. And the carpark is just the other side of it on the left.

This is a pay and display car park so please bring coins with you.

WHAT TO BRING/WEAR: Sturdy walking boots/shoes; warm layers; drink and snack; waterproof jacket and trousers (whatever the weather forecast). Unfortunately we can't offer you the delicious pre-prepared wild treats that we usually bring with us however we can offer you a hot tea/infusion so please bring a lightweight cup with you.

Please also bring personal masks, a pair of disposable gloves each, and a personal first aid kit. (From a safety perspective, this offers additional protection against Covid-19 if there were to be an accident and first aid is required by me or the rescue teams. Sorry we know it seems onerous but, given current government guidelines, these are currently being proposed by all guides.)

Hand hygiene will be important during this walk, particularly if you want to try any of the wild edibles so please bring hand sanitiser with you. You can also pick eg: a leaf from the stem and then eat the upper section to avoid the need for so much hand sanitiser.

CANCELLATION POLICY: The walk will go ahead come rain or shine. If there are strong winds or storm warnings so that the conditions are dangerous or deeply unpleasant, then we may postpone to ensure the group's safety. Please keep an eye on your emails 12-24 hours pre-event for any notifications from us. Sorry no refunds unless event is postponed or cancelled.

Dartmoor’s Daughter has received the ‘Good to Go’ Industry Standard Certificate. If you have a cold, flu, cough, temperature, or are diagnosed with Covid-19 please do not join the walk. You will be able to transfer your booking to another walk.

RISK: No liability accepted for accidents or incidents.
