Enjoy a short circular walk from the ancient stannary town of Chagford along a beautiful section of the North Teign River. Organised at the same time as Dartmoor National Park Authority’s 'Moor Otters Arts Trail’, we will learn about the river’s inhabitants as well as how it’s copper-gold coloured waters have been used over the centuries for mills, farms, tin-mining, electricity, as well as domestic drinking water. Your participation will help to raise funds for DNPA 'Donate for Dartmoor’ which support conservation, archaeology, and public rights of way projects. After our walk there are several 'Moor Otters’ for you to discover in Chagford and some lovely shops, cafes and pubs to visit for your lunch.

Tickets

FEE: DONATION - £10 adult, £5 children under 16. Ticket sales will be donated to the Moor Otters Arts Trail. Group size is limited so pre-booking is essential.

We need to retain contact details for 21 days post-walk so please include your contact details (email and mobile/telephone when booking/paying.)

Location:

Chagford Town Square (next to bus stop)

Car Sharing - Please car share in your ‘bubbles’ where possible. Parking is limited on Dartmoor. And sharing lessens our impact on the environment. Thank you.

Further Information:

WHAT TO WEAR/BRING: Sturdy walking boots; warm layers; sunscreen; waterproof jacket and trousers (whatever the forecast); walking poles if you have them; drink/flask and snack or picnic lunch.

Dogs - By arrangement only please.

We also recommend bringing personal masks, a pair of disposable gloves, and a personal first aid kit. (From a safety perspective, this offers additional protection against Covid-19 if there were to be an accident and first aid is required by me or the rescue teams. Sorry we know it seems onerous but, given current government guidelines, these are currently being proposed by all guides.)

LEVEL: Easy - approximately 3 miles through woodland, along river banks, open fields, and hilly country lanes.

Route is dependent on weather conditions and group pace.

CANCELLATION: The event will go ahead come rain or shine. Payments are refunded (less the booking fee) for cancellations no less than six weeks before your walk or experience.

Dartmoor’s Daughter has received the ‘We’re Good to Go’ Industry Standard Certificate.  If you have a cold, flu, cough, temperature or are diagnosed with COVID-19 please do not join the walk. You will be able to transfer your booking to another walk.

RISK: Walks and activities are at your own risk. No liability accepted for accidents or incidents.

More about 'Moor Otters'

This walk is independently organised to support Dartmoor National Park Authority’s 'Moor Otters Arts Trail’, and to encourage visitors to Chagford. The Moor Otters Arts Trail features more than 80 sculptures of otters with cubs decorated by local and national artists. They will be placed in and around Dartmoor from 28th May to early September. The trail aims to help people to discover and learn more about Dartmoor, raise money for ongoing conservation, and provide a boost for local businesses. There will be four trails on Dartmoor as well as the Mayflower Trail in Plymouth.
